Morning Prayer

One of the short prayers that I love is the "pre-sermon" prayer that priests sometimes use:

"May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. Amen."

That's possibly the best way to start off your day.

This weekend was nice. I've missed my campus ministry group. They really put things into perspective.

Well, Pastor Dave at Tempe First makes up for at least one of the bad priests since he uses that prayer before his sermons almost every week at the 9:30 (traditional) service.

Often referred to as the prayer of preparation, Dave says, "May the words of my mouth," and the congregation joins, "and the mediations of our hearts..."

But get this: When Rob, our campus minister, got up to preach this past Sunday in the 9:30 service, he goes, "May the words of our mouths — oh wait, my mouth..." and then can't help but chuckle at himself while the congregation continues with its part.

well, Fr Frank (ooops it's Mr Frank here in the diocese of Virginia LOL) used that prayer with the acolytes Sunday before we lined up for the Procession.. You're right, it is a great way to start.....

(and thank God they stopped calling me Mr Laws hahaha)

Agreement here, too, that this prayer should start our days. Perhaps we can add "... and be acceptable to humanity" since God's always affirming and forgiving, but, alas, humanity isn't always.

This rather common sermon opening prayer is from Psalm 19:14.
